North American DSL Access Concentrator Port Shipments Plummet in the Third Quarter of 2006
Calix Shipments Rise in Down Market
Redwood City, Calif. – November 15, 2006 –
According to a newly published report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market
information about the networking and telecommunications industries, worldwide DSL Access
concentrator port shipments decreased 5 percent over the previous calendar quarter after
reaching three consecutive quarters of record shipments. While higher demand in China
fueled an increase in port shipments to the Asia Pacific region, North America
experienced a sharp decline with 35 percent fewer ports shipped than in the previous quarter.
“The downturn in North America is not surprising given record levels of shipments
in recent quarters and the concurrent flattening of subscriber additions,” said
Tam Dell’Oro, President of Dell’Oro Group. “This has resulted in an excess capacity
of ports in North American Service Provider networks. Developing regions including
China, India and Eastern Europe will account for a growing portion of the market
in the coming years as we expect subscriber addition growth in these areas to
outpace those in developed regions,” Dell’Oro added.
The report also indicates that despite the slip in the North
American market, Calix saw the greatest increase in port shipments
and gained the most shares among all other manufacturers.
